Hello Dear Reader
I am all a-fluster as I write. You’d think I’d be more organised, but in all my galavanting across the socials in recent days, it had completely slipped my mind that I was to compose a newsletter for 6pm today. It is currently 6.45pm. This isn’t going to be the usual considered think piece - for that some of you will be grateful - and if you were hoping for wisdom, my cupboard is bare and my pond is parched.
I did go to Beaulieu in the rain yesterday though and looked at ponies and bought some expensive soap in a garden centre and while that may not be everyone’s idea of romance, it is for me. Trust me. Someone I didn’t want to marry once asked me to marry them on Valentine’s Day years ago and I had to say yes because I didn’t want to hurt their feelings and I’d never had a diamond ring before but I came to my senses just in time to marry a completely different man on Valentine’s Day the following year. (The one I’m still married to now.)
Anyway. I digress. This evening I am in your inbox, not to ask you to marry me but to tell you about something I have been intimating for a while. And something else completely new, hot off the press new, breaking news new.
At last I can reveal that the ‘Fires’ vinyl re-issue is available for pre-order here and it has been a labour of love. I am so very grateful to the incredibly talented Darragh Hughes who has knocked it out of the design park yet again and to everyone at Chrysalis Records who has been beavering away behind the scenes to source special products and plan a really fun and illuminating social media campaign in coming weeks. I’ve joined TikTok, although in truth I have no business being on there and literally don’t know what I’m doing. For reals. Please, if you’re on there, please come and find me because my son has more followers than I do and loves to keep reminding me of this.
Then, just like buses, today is the day that Record Store Day gets announced, and I am very happy to tell you that this year I will be participating in the form of an exclusive vinyl comprising the ‘Fires’ B-sides. I will also be doing an in-store performance on the day itself - April 20th 2024 - in a city that is NOT London (because I’ll have been in London exactly a week before at The Palladium) and I’ll tell you where eventually but for now I shall leave you guessing like a Netflix 12-parter that could really have just been 3 episodes but that’s not how telly rolls these days.
That’s it for now, except with one small caveat. The digital landscape being what it is, I will be posting a lot more frequently than I usually do. Maybe not in newsletter form - because I don’t see these as newsletters, so much as dispatches to my friends, and I don’t as a rule like selling things to my mates. But if you follow me on social media, because I don’t have a ginormous marketing budget, in order to reach people who would probably quite like to hear about the ‘Fires’ re-issue and such, the name of the game is frequency. I’ve been reading all manner of articles about this stuff and let me tell you, it’s a Wild West out there that makes one long for the days of adverts in the back of Q magazine.
I wish you a wonderful evening.
With much love as ever,
Nerina xxx
