Enjoying your posts and covers. My son in law toured with Supergrass in early 2020 on the tour that ended just before lockdown, he was involved in the lighting. Heading off with Iron Maiden to do the same next week!
So now we need to find a song with which you can learn to play the Chapman Stick. That would be fun to watch. Are you up for some 80s King Crimson or some Peter Gabriel??
Well thanks alot Nerina! you've successfully infected me with an ear worm!🤣
All day! Can't stop playing it, humming it, grooving to it......probably will dream about it later - if I can get it out of my head long enough to fall asleep.
Please issue health warning before you post your next cover!
I have set up an account on Bluesky but after perusing it a little it just felt like another big time vampire. I’ve actually finally fallen in love with YouTube - I’ve realised what an incredible learning resource it is. This year it’s taught me everything from re-upholstery to guitar maintenance!!
Fabulous, the best yet. Please keep up the regular Substack pieces. There may be a lot of people on it, but there aren't many on itwhose posts are as interesting as yours. Mike x
I'm happy for you to continue stacking as much as you want in my inbox, thank you!
I'm glad you're really enjoying this series 'cos we are too. IMA you did surprise me - pleasantly I add - with Supergrass, and this is your most polished yet. Looking forward to the album, tour and the next cover you post...Steven Wilson? PF? Zep? Whatever it is It'll be great.
As a non musician and someone entirely ignorant of the process of building a song, I'm curious about the order you laid down the instruments. I'm guessing you started with the acoustic guitar - it seemed to be the base on which the song builds?
It really depends on my ‘way in’ to a song. With this one, I started building from laying down the bass to a very basic drum loop first and then added keys and guitars next. I don’t have a set up at home with enough inputs to record live drums so I had to ‘play’ the parts in using samples. But I did watch a lot of live footage of Danny Goffey playing the song because I think for me it was the bass and drums that keep it motoring. What’s so great about this song is that when you watch them play it live it’s just the main three chaps and Gaz’s brother on keys, and it’s so full sounding. They have insanely great energy as a band; a very Beatlesesque energy I always thought. Maybe that’s why I love them so much!!
When you come to play for us in Corsham you could choose any number of Bath artists from Peter Gabriel to Tears For Fears, from the Korgis to Goldfrapp but you know what? Corsham has a very famous current resident - Pink Floyd's Nick Mason. Why not cover one of their classics? Cheers, Martin.
I am spoilt for choice with Corsham; it’s going to be tricky nailing it down. It’s also a puzzle - there are a lot of classic bands linked to various different towns so I have to make sure I juggle choices effectively…!
Thanks Wendy! I’ve been so blooming busy with this covers project I’ve not had to catch up with your always wonderful posts. If I get all my stuff done this week I see a big Bank Holiday reading catch up in my future….
Love that song! Haven’t heard it for so long and your cover is fantastic! Love the pets being part of it too 😀Very cool, the whole thing but especially that disco octave bass part!
This is brilliant, especially with the little essay attached to each cover. Keep ‘er coming. There is no such thing as too much Nerina content, whether music, written word, spoken word, or anything else.
Amazing! Love it - looking forwards to your Southampton cover. It's basically ebony rockers, Poppy heads , delays or Craig David.
Good luck!

Fab cover! Share them all. Everywhere. All the time.
Now Twitter/X is a wasteland, have you considered considering BlueSky? (Clogging inboxes with anything from you is always welcome though in any case!)

You do realise I'm now picturing an upholstered guitar? :-)
Someone somewhere on YouTube will have posted a ‘how to’ vid on that I’m sure!!😂😂

Keep’em coming! Loving the violins.

Love this song and your cover of it, Nerina. You add to the noise in the best way possible! Always enjoy your updates.

*had time, I meant!
Oh, lovely of you to say. Nothing time sensitive there, no worries!
Excited to have bought tickets for your Southampton gig in November.

Fab choice of song, and beautiful rendition. I like both types of Substack writing so my vote is keep going as you have.
Never stop the e-mails Nerina. Always, always, entertaining, funny, and a great read.
