Love this song, great version! Nothing wrong with drum machines, but nice to see and hear “real” drums this time!

I don’t have space in my little home studio for drums so have to decamp to the main studio to do them. I know what you mean though; I love playing drums. It makes me think about a song in a totally different way. Max concentration but also very meditative.

If I had you

Sorry I sneezed… the above now looks like a stalker message.

If I had you was a hit for the Corgies… at the risk of sounding like Paul Gambimchi.. Gamberchini…. Gamblechino… That American Dj that spends time in the UK

Sorry… Corgis… who are on tour at the moment… ‘everyone’ song

As a songwriter what’s the fine to keeping a first verse and chorus then just repeating it again as opposed to writing another verse… it all works… but I always wondered what a second verse could have been with a gorgeous first.. ‘ change your heart, it will astound you’… how lovely

The Ace song I covered, ‘How Long’ does the same thing, repeating the first verse lyrics in the second. I love that in both these songs it really doesn’t matter because the melodies are so sumptuous and the ‘story’ is so well established with the existing lyrics. And dare I say part of their hookability is that the listener singing along doesn’t have extra words to learn😂

But think… that’s just one celeb!

We all, everyone, buy your music and lyrics and each receive something from them.

‘Hands Up’ gets me every time. Whether it’s me on my way to my partner… or just walking … it’s up there with the very best as far my little opinion goes.

I was so touched that she chose Sophia! Honestly it will never stop making my heart sing when people say what something I’ve written means to them. It’s pure magic!

Sorry, I didn’t realise this was Dave’s cover that he graciously let you appear as a guest. When is he touring?

Touring is beneath him Kate. He sends me out on tour to make sure I keep him in Dreamies.

Hmmm. But that looked like a cat that had insufficient Dreamies. He looked like a cat with a little bit of rage. What will your fans do when Dave decides he’s had enough and goes on tour to support his own Dreamies habit?

They’ll probably buy more tickets to see him than me. His special FAFO Dave t shirt sold out in record time😂

😂 I know. I bought one for a friend and missed the boat myself.

You’re not alone with the Knutsford City Limits thing… I think a psychologist would say it’s a well known condition caused by too much exposure to Robbie Williams when you were young and impressionable.

You do make me laugh Nerina and I mean that in the good way and I know what you mean about North

Korean Boder Control vibes when travelling to France and all the nonsense required to take the furbabies, are we attempting to cross thr channel from outer space or by way of another dimension?! C'est ridicule!!

It’s a challenging song to cover, Nerina, but you’ve nailed it once again, and wonderfully. I’m glad that the cat got involved once more (but the dog seemed bewildered). I completely agree with your sentiment towards your preferred era of music. I can remember the precise moment I first heard ‘Everybody’s Got to Learn Sometime’ on the radio when I was in the midst of being in love for the first time – a very special song for me. Thank you for covering it.

It’s interesting, what I’m finding is that when I’m doing a song I absolutely love, there’s no challenge just pure love and admiration. I’ve had a few epiphanies about songs I thought I loved and then realised I didn’t love them, I just thought they were very clever. It may constrain me somewhat in future choices but it’s incredibly freeing at the same time.

Ah, the epiphany that true artistic expression stems from a place of genuine passion rather than intellectual exercise. It’s as if the emotional connection acts as a more fertile ground for innovation, even when working with existing material. Then you must continue mining the songs you love, and I must restrain from making any suggestions! Embrace this project, the output is stunning.

Beautiful cover, Nerina, and I love your cat's bumper-car tail stealing the show!

Thanks Wendy. He’s hilarious. He was sleeping in the window oblivious and the moment I started playing he simply had to come and investigate.

Another great newsletter. My mum was from outside Limerick so I have visited frequently. Of the current crop of Limerick artists Denise Chaila, who moved there as a toddler, would be my favourite. I love her album 'Go Bravely' and her earlier track 'Duel Citizenship' is fabulous, especially if you have knowledge of Irish culture. Not suitable cover material but if you have a few spare minutes in a hotel bedroom worth a listen.

THE DUCHESS OF PORK 😂. When she had a bit of extra weight on her. 😆.

However even though she married a nonce. She didn't fare too badly of all the royal castoffs. The murdered Diana cause she was carring a black baby and a down syndrome royal child was quietly stuck in a (home) and airbrushed from history. Now this one I find hard to believe but a soldier who only worked at Buck Pal for a day said he saw the remains of a severed corpse of a child in the queens freezer.

Can you tell if I like the blue bloods or not ! 😂🤣😂.

I have a lot of pride so this is defo the last time Im asking.

Do you need a support slot for Dublin Workmans Cellar ? I have a plug in acoustic so Im sorted and if you like I can play One by U2 as my last song and dovetail into your set.

Please answer me a polite no. Is better than not knowing.

I can E mail you some tunes so you can make sure Im not total shite !
